February 2023 Meeting Notes

Minutes February 7, 2023

The meeting was called to order  by President Ritchie Farrell.  Secretary Marleen Parker read the minutes, which were approved as read.   Treasurer Brenda Lagasse gave the Treasurer’s report, which was approved as read.

Old Business:

No update on the Crow’s Nest project was available. 

Dates for our Rodeo will be July 7 & 8. Brenda reported that the cost of the Rodeo Contractor will increase by $2000, bringing the cost to $11,000.

Charlie and Ritchie will work on moving the blocks for the manure bunker, depending on the weather. The cost of the blocks will be approximately $600.

Ritchie left a message for Dan Koch about crowning the Arena, but has not heard back. Hopefully, we can get this done before May 1, and add sand to the Arena.

New Business:

Tammy Forshee with Modern Woodmen has offered us a matching grant of up to $2500 for a community project. We may be able to use the concession stand at the CYRA Rodeo as our project.

The NBHA would like to have Barrel Races at the Arena on May 20 and June 17.  These would be a 2 run series each day, with start times of 11:00 and 1:30. Lance Lagasse would like to have Barrel Races for kids 18 and under in the Practice Arena those days. The motion was made, seconded, and passed. Lance will need help those days.

The Cloud County Fair will be July 18- 22.  The Fair Open Horse Show will be July 16 or July 23, with the 4-H show on July 21.

The bottom step of the stairs leading to the top level of the Crow’s Nest was added to the list of improvements needed. The possibility of adding a cement platform was discussed.

Donna will contact Tallgrass about Discount Days for services. Dates will be April 3- 15.

The Rodeo Committee will meet Monday, February 20, at 7 pm at Lance’s office. Erin has the sponsorship list. Rick volunteered to recruit new sponsors.

Charlie will continue to have trail rides throughout the year on the second Sunday of the Month. Next ride is February 12 1:00 pm. Everyone is welcome.
